Cheaper China source or your usual reseller? Test both the same way

Someone offers you the same molecule at a third of what your usual reseller charges. The vial looks identical. The only honest question is not whether it works. It is whether you can prove what is in it before you inject it.

You can. An independent test runs about $300 a vial, and the process is more specific than most people expect. Here is what it actually involves, and why testing a cheap China source barely differs from testing the reseller you already trust.

The labs that actually run a peptide test

Four names come up repeatedly for independent peptide testing: Janoshik, Finnrick, Peptidetest, and ACS Labs. Janoshik is the paid default. Finnrick offers some free testing, though people are right to question the revenue model behind free lab work. A full panel, the kind that includes endotoxins and not just purity, runs around $300 (roughly €300) per vial. That is often more than the kit you are testing.

Separately, Freedom Diagnostics runs a COA lookup: you enter the code printed on a vendor's certificate and check it against the lab's own records. That verifies a document. It does not verify the vial in your hand. Those are two different jobs, and the second one is the only one that proves anything about what you received.

What a full panel checks, and what a vendor COA skips

A typical vendor certificate of analysis shows two things: HPLC purity, which should read 98% or higher, and the weight per vial, which confirms you got the dose you paid for. That is the easy part, and it is the part everyone publishes.

What a vendor COA usually leaves out:

  • Endotoxins (lipopolysaccharides, bacterial byproducts). These are associated with the inflammation and post-injection fever reactions people report. A 99% purity number says nothing about them. The other 1% is where they hide.
  • Residual solvents like TFA and acetonitrile, left over from synthesis.
  • Bacterial contamination beyond endotoxins.

A full independent panel is worth $300 precisely because it tests the things the free document ignores.

The timeline nobody plans for

The catch in the process is not the money. It is the sequencing.

A test only proves something about the exact batch you tested. Buy a vial, test it, then reorder three months later, and you are injecting an unverified batch again. Batch variance is real, especially for oils and HGH. So the useful version is: buy and test the same batch at the same time, and inject from that batch.

That stretches the timeline. Grey-market kits typically ship in one to two weeks. Lab turnaround adds more on top, and it varies by lab and queue, so plan for weeks, not days, between ordering and a verified first dose. The people who split this cost do it in groups: five people splitting a $300 test pay about $60 each, which is the only way the math stops hurting.

A cheaper China source vs the reseller you trust

Here is the part that changes how you should think about the whole exercise.

Close to all retail peptides are manufactured in China, regardless of what the vendor site says. A domestic reseller is, in most cases, a markup on that same supply. The two real exceptions are sermorelin, which has a genuine US-compounded route with a prescription, and tesamorelin, which is FDA-approved and priced accordingly (around $14,000 for 2mg at a retail pharmacy without insurance).

So the premium you pay a trusted reseller is usually not buying a different molecule. It is buying a track record, and if the reseller tends to disappear within a year, an insurance margin baked into the price. That can be worth it. What it does not do is remove the need to verify. A reseller without its own testing pipeline is a retail markup on an unverified vial, same as the cheap source. Unless the reseller runs real third-party testing, you check both the same way.

What a passing test actually proves

One passing panel proves one vial from one batch was clean at one point in time. It does not certify the vendor, the next kit, or the vial your friend bought. That is the ceiling on what $300 buys, and it is worth knowing before you treat a green result as a permanent guarantee.

None of this is a green light to buy from anyone. It is the process, the cost, and the honest limits, so the decision is an informed one rather than a hopeful one. What you take, and whether a source is one you should touch at all, is a call for you and a clinician, not a vendor's certificate.
